Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) promotes an integrated approach to the conservation and management of plant diversity, through the Prioritise-Plan-Act-Monitor cycle. The goal of the BGCI Tree Conservation Programme is that no tree species goes extinct. To this end, BGCI coordinates and collaborates with organisations around the world to protect the world’s tree species from extinction.

In 2021, BGCI launched the GlobalTree Portal that gathers and allows access to information on the almost 60,000 tree species. This includes distribution information, conservation status and conservation actions. Within the GlobalTree Portal is the Conservation Action Tracker, an open-access resource to track and monitor conservation actions for tree species worldwide. The Conservation Action Tracker allows experts to provide species level information on conservation action. By gathering conservation action information, we can identify gaps in conservation action, enabling targeted prioritisation and planning for the world’s most threatened tree species.

In this webinar BGCI’s Katharine Davies and Itxaso Quintana explain how to find the Conservation Action Tracker, how this tool can be used for conservation, and how to get involved.
