How Can Restoration Practitioners Strengthen Biodiversity Outcomes? Introducing the TGBS Mentoring Programme
Assurance and certification schemes for tree-planting, agroforestry, and ecological restoration increasingly emphasize credible, measurable outcomes: biodiversity, ecological integrity, and long-term recovery. Restoration practitioners are central to meeting those expectations, since their decisions shape both project quality and lasting success. As projects face growing demands to demonstrate biodiversity outcomes and apply restoration best practices, practitioners need ongoing technical guidance and capacity building to support effective assessment, monitoring, adaptive management, and decision-making.
This webinar (hosted by the Society for Ecological Restoration) introduces The Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) Mentoring Programme, a capacity-building initiative designed to help ecosystem restoration practitioners strengthen biodiversity outcomes and improve project quality. The programme is distinct from TGBS independent assessment and certification. It offers practical guidance to help practitioners manage risk in project design, strengthen biodiversity outcomes, and apply best practices across a range of restoration contexts.

The session will explore how the programme supports practitioners in project design, implementation, monitoring, and adaptive management, while building capacity for future biodiversity certification where appropriate. By supporting stronger practice and continuous improvement, the TGBS Mentoring Programme contributes to more credible, resilient, and ecologically appropriate restoration in support of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
