News published 09 June 2026

On 04 June 2026, BGCI hosted a workshop about an introduction to participatory approaches which will help organisations with shared-decision making with communities.

Effective conservation depends on meaningful collaboration with the people most closely connected to nature: your local community. In this interactive workshop, we explore participatory approaches that help botanic gardens and conservation practitioners actively involve communities and the public in decision-making processes.

The session introduced a range of practical methods for fostering inclusive participation, while also examining the benefits and challenges of participatory approaches in conservation work. By strengthening local ownership and incorporating diverse perspectives, these approaches can lead to more sustainable and impactful conservation outcomes.
