2022 Ukraine Botanic Garden Appeal – New Target!

Together with the generosity of many botanic gardens and partners, including a matched donation from the Atlanta Botanical Garden and over 30 gardens from the North American-based Directors of Large Gardens group, we have reached our first £50,000 target for the Ukraine Botanic Garden Appeal – Thank you!

We are now extending the appeal to £100,000. We have been receiving news about the impacts of the donations from the first four gardens which received $2,500, and a similar amount is on its way to another six gardens, to support staff, sustain collections, and allow gardens to remain open in this time of crisis.

To view information on all the gardens supported through the Appeal, please see here.

Second Phase of the Ukraine Botanic Garden Appeal

In this second phase of the Appeal, as well as asking for donations, we would like all gardens to get behind the campaign. We request that your communications teams support our Ukraine Botanic Garden Appeal social media campaign, and that you encourage your visitors to support the gardens in Ukraine.

We have created a communication board with ready-to-use materials for you to share. Your support can make a big difference – for example, The Friends of the Acadian Forest Society at the Harriet Irving Botanical Gardens raised $1500 for the campaign at their annual native plant sale.

Updates from Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden

With the support provided by the Appeal, scientists at the Kryvyi Rih Botanical Garden conducted an educational excursion “Blooming Ukraine” for internally displaced school age children. During the excursion, 14 refugee children were able to be given some respite from the tension caused by the conflict by spending time in nature and learning about the growth and development of hybrid irises and peonies. The event was a success, with the children delighted by the variety of colors, aromas, and their interaction with nature.

Updates from Hryshko Botanical Garden

Gardens come alive when they have visitors. This heartfelt letter of love to the M.M. Hryshko Botanic Garden summarises the impact that visitors can have:

Thank you on behalf of each of our volunteer community for the opportunity to find comfort for the soul and relieve stress, working with plants and gaining strength in nature.

Your donations can still make a difference.
