The International Center for Tropical Botany at The Kampong, in collaboration with The University of Florida Herbarium, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Montgomery Botanical Center, and Gifford Arboretum, offers an intensive, in-residence course/workshop in the biology and systematics of tropical plants. The objective of the course is to provide advanced students and/or professionals with a detailed coverage of the systematics, phylogeny, morphological diversity, economic botany and conservation of tropical seed plants. Our locations represent the largest living collections of tropical plants in the United States. The course also includes fieldtrips to the Florida Everglades, the Florida Keys, and adjacent natural areas.

Class Schedule: May 17 – June 14, 2020
Instructors include Walter S. Judd, Lucas Majure, and Chris Baraloto.
Course credit is available from either University of Florida, or Florida International University

Applications are due March 13th, 2020 (Emailed to tropics@fiu.edu). Please include: a letter stating reasons for taking the course, a CV, and one letter of recommendation (sent separately).

Course Fees are $1250, plus dorm fees ($25 per day). The Kampong facilities include dorm-style rooms with bunk beds, shared kitchenette, laundry facility and Wi-Fi access.

Limited scholarships are available, with priority given to international students with demonstrated need. To apply, please include with your application packet: a one-page statement on how you hope to contribute to tropical plant biology and conservation in your region of study or residence; a total budget for your participation in the course; and a request for full or partial support.
