Dear BGCI Members,
I’m reaching out on behalf of the Texas Plant Conservation Alliance (TXPCA) to request data from your organization, as part of an ongoing gap analysis to identify conservation needs for the rarest plants across the state.
With support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, our project will identify species and regions that are underrepresented in current conservation efforts, helping prioritize future collaborative conservation efforts where they are needed most.
We are requesting data on 124 priority species, including all G1 (Critically imperiled) taxa in Texas. While this list does not include every species of conservation concern in Texas, it will provide a strong foundation for future information sharing and collaboration.
If your organization maintains collections or works with any of these species, we’d greatly appreciate your participation in our project. We have provided submission templates but will accept data in any form. Please review our full request below and visit our website to learn more about the TXPCA 2026 Survey of Critically Endangered Texas Plants.
Data Requests:
Preferred Deadline: October 9, 2026
We are requesting information on priority species maintained in your ex situ collections of living plants, seeds, tissues, etc. Please review and download the Accession Data Submission Template, add your institution’s data, and email the completed spreadsheet to txpca_2026survey@wildflower.org.
If your data are organized in another format and you are unable to match the preferred format, we are happy to accept those as well. It’s valuable to know if these species exist in any collections, even without detailed provenance data, so please submit any information about the species you are maintaining. We also recognize that some collections originate from populations on private land and may be subject to landowner agreements. If location information cannot be shared, obscured coordinates or county-level data are welcome.
We are also requesting information about conservation work your institution is conducting, including restoration, research, monitoring, advocacy, and education/outreach focused on the priority species. Please complete the conservation action survey.
Please report your conservation actions by species. For certain in situ actions, we also request county-level information. These data will help to identify geographic and taxonomic gaps in conservation efforts and guide future collaboration.
Thank you for supporting this effort! We are grateful for your time and expertise. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Sincerely,
Jessi White
