Golden Wedding Anniversary of Botanic Garden Alexander Von Humboldt

In collaboration with the Botanic Garden Alexander Von Humboldt and the University del Tolima in Colombia, BGCI is organising a South American Botanic Gardens Network Workshop. The botanical gardens of South America must be recognised, endorsed and improved to ensure that they reach their potential as guardians of the plant diversity and environmental heritage in their region. This workshop will serve as a platform where alliances will be established to support and promote the conservation of plant diversity. Parallel to this workshop, the Universidad del Tolima will celebrate the “Golden Wedding” anniversary of its botanical garden Alexander Von Humboldt.

To develop an action plan for the creation of a sustainable network of the South American Botanic Gardens, BGCI is organising a workshop in which experiences will be shared between the participants with regards to the management of botanical gardens collections, databases and funding. The creation of a South American Botanic Garden Network will develop an improved implementation of concerted action to conserve plant diversity in this region. This meeting will take place at the University del Tolima and its botanic garden Alexander von Humboldt in Ibagué, Colombia, from the 3rd until the 6th of December, 2019.
