To celebrate the International Day of Botanic Garden Education, the Korea National Arboretum (KNA) and the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia, hosted a workshop bringing together botanic garden education experts from across East Asia.

Under the theme “Climate Action through Botanic Garden Education,” participants explored a wide range of approaches to climate education, including climate emotions, citizen science, biodiversity conservation, and carbon sink education. Through these discussions and case studies, the workshop demonstrated how botanic gardens and arboreta can serve as powerful educational platforms that inspire meaningful awareness and action in response to the climate crisis.

The event welcomed approximately 140 participants from the Republic of Korea, China, Japan, and Mongolia, including educators, researchers, and practitioners. Following the workshop, participants joined hands-on activities at the Korea National Arboretum, where they experienced and created educational materials and took part in a guided forest interpretation program. These activities provided an opportunity to further explore the role of botanic gardens.
