Capacity Building for Botanic Garden Education

As part of BGCI’s 5-year strategy (2026-2030) the education team have a focus on developing foundation education training, to support member institutions in delivering core education activities within their gardens and arboreta. We recognise that education delivery and capacity look different across our membership, but that many (smaller) gardens have limited opportunity to access key training and resources. As part of a Capacity Building project funded by The Simon Gibson Charitable Trust, BGCI is inviting education and engagement specialists within our network to complete a survey to help shape future work of the team in this key area.

This survey aims to identify key needs and support across the BGCI network and will form the basis of a wider plan to develop and implement foundation education support and training materials.
The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete and the deadline for submission is 1st December 2026.

Note: In 2025 we shared the BGE 2025 Global Survey to help shape the future of botanic garden education, this is a separate external survey with a different focus which was organised by the University of Gothenburg, the University of Neuchatel, Botanic Gardens Conservation International, and the Gothenburg Global Biodiversity Centre. It is hoped that the results of that survey will be shared in 2027 (as part of a published paper and follow on issue of BGCI’s Roots). This new survey focuses specifically on the training needs of educators and how BGCI can support and respond to these needs. For any questions please contact Helen.
