We invite symposium proposals for the 5th biennial meeting of the Caribbean and Central American Botanic Gardens Network “Botanical Bridges 2024”.

2024 Botanical Bridges Congress
The role of Botanic Gardens in the Conservation of Caribbean Plant Diversity
12–16 February 2024
Jardín Botánico de Cartagena, Colombia

The Congress themes are:

  • Caribbean Plant Diversity
  • Caribbean Enthnobotany
  • Botanic Garden Living Collections Management (plant records, conservation horticulture, arboriculture, landscaping)
  • Science in Botanic Gardens
  • Education and outreach in Botanic Gardens
  • Botanic Garden Development (master planning, funding, administration, communications)

Proposals can be submitted in English, Spanish, French, Dutch, Papiamento or Creole!

Symposium proposals should include:

  • Title: 15 words maximum
  • Principal organiser (Co-organisers): (name, institutional affiliation, country, email)
  • Potential speakers (max 5, including talks by organisers): (name, institutional affiliation, country, email, and tentative talk titles)
  • All talks will be 20 mins including Q&A!
  • Description: (400 words max)

Timeline associated with call for symposia:
13 March 2023 – Call for symposia opened
15 May 2023 – Deadline for submission of symposia proposals
12 June 2023 – Notification of acceptance of symposia proposal

Network and Specialists Group meetings
There will be space to hold Network and Specialists Group meetings. Please submit your request as if it were a symposium, and indicate approximate number of attendees and if the meeting is open to all interested participants or network/group members only.

Evaluation process and criteria
Proposals will be evaluated by the Organising Committee on the basis of relevance to the congress themes, appeal to a broad audience, structure and organisation, diverse speaker lineup.

There will be a call for individual abstracts of talks and posters that meet the themes of the Congress later in the year. Stay tuned!
