The Nurturing Nature Initiative, led by the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) in partnership with Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), recently brought together restoration, conservation, and botanical garden leaders in Yunnan, China for a week of scientific exchange and collaboration. The visit included a symposium at the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation Annual Meeting and a workshop of the Initiative’s Climate Resilience Advisory Group hosted by the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), creating opportunities to strengthen partnerships across institutions, disciplines, and countries.

Participants explored how botanical gardens can contribute to ecosystem restoration through biodiversity conservation, research, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and community engagement. Discussions helped shape priorities for the next phase of the Initiative while reinforcing the unique role botanical gardens can play in advancing restoration efforts worldwide.
