Development and implementation of an interpretive signage system for the San Juan
Bautista De La Salle Botanical Garden
Project Status: Completed 2025
Funded by: Minnesota Landscape Arboretum via the Global Botanic Garden Fund
Project Partner: Jardín Botánico San Juan Bautista De La Salle
Introduction
The San Juan Bautista De La Salle Botanical Garden had a need to enhance visitor experience, particularly in plant identification and interpretation. Existing plant labels required replacement, and the garden lacked a comprehensive interpretive plan, limiting self-guided learning and engagement.
Project Goals
This aim of this project was to update plant identification labels and develop a cohesive interpretive signage system throughout the garden.
Key Achievements
The garden replaced the identification plaques, providing a refreshed appearance to the Main Collection.

Several interpretive panels were installed throughout the garden, including: A location sketch of the San Juan Bautista De La Salle Botanical Garden, “What is a Botanical Garden?”, “The Arboretum of my Garden.” and “Gardens of Life, the favourite place for pollinators”.

Since installing the new plaques and panels, students and visitors spend more time on the trails engaging with the content, enhancing both the educational value and overall visitor experience.
The initiative also provides educators with a practical tool to support student research and the site now serves as a more effective platform for botanical engagement and public awareness.
