In 2023, through the Global Botanic Garden Fund (GBGF), BGCI disbursed 66 grants, to 60 intuitions across 32 countries. These projects have now finished and we are delighted to share some of the outcomes.

The GBGF drives plant conservation, especially in areas of high biodiversity by disbursing small grants every year. The projects are varied from seed collecting, to education, to improving collection management in gardens. The 2023 projects have produced some fantastic results, including:

Protecting a range-restricted endemic plant in Kazakhstan Conserving ancient woody plant specimens through education in Ukraine & Armenia Digitized tree labelling and capacity building, Nigeria Establishing a seed and seedling bank for endangered species of Araucaria Forest, Brazil

We thank all the awardees for their hard work and contributions to plant conservation. Read more of the successful GBGF projects below.

If you would like to apply for funding, the 2025 call for applications is now open. Click below to find out more about each of the different grants and to apply.
Calls close 5pm UK Time, Friday 27 June 2025.
