As part of the project “Ex situ conservation of two West African endemic and endangered species (Eremospatha dransfieldii Sunderl. and Gambeya azaguieana (J.Miège) Aubrév. & Pellegr.) in Ivory Coast”, implemented by the Jardin des Palmiers of Divo with the financial support of BGCI through the Global Botanic Garden Fund (Grant GBGF/2024/06), significant progress has been achieved.

Phenological Monitoring
Ongoing monitoring is being conducted at the former ORSTOM Botanical Garden to document the phenology of the target species. This activity provides essential data to better understand their reproductive cycles and ecological requirements.

Propagation Efforts
Vegetative propagation trials have been initiated in the nursery of the Jardin des Palmiers, with a focus on Gambeya azaguieana. These trials aim to establish reliable techniques for ensuring the long-term survival of this highly threatened species.

Project Objective
The overall goal of the project is to prevent the extinction of these species by creating and maintaining an ex-situ conservation collection in Ivory Coast, hosted at the Jardin des Palmiers in Divo.
