BGCI is delighted to announce the launch of a new module on its online learning platform: Best Practices for Planting Trees.

Trees are essential to healthy ecosystems, biodiversity conservation, and human well-being. Planting trees may seem simple, but ensuring their survival and long-term contribution to restoration efforts requires knowledge, skill, and careful practice. This new course provides learners with a comprehensive introduction to the principles and methods behind successful tree planting, with a special emphasis on conservation outcomes.

The module is structured into eight engaging sections that can be completed in approximately three hours:

1. Welcome to the module
2. The importance of horticulture in conservation
3. Tree planting best practice: Propagation focusing on roots
4. Tree planting best practice: Planting
5. Tree planting best practice: After-care
6. Practical planting demonstration
7. Case study: Mulanje cedar
8. Conclusion and next steps

Through a mix of theory, practical demonstrations, and real-world examples, participants will gain the knowledge they need to successfully grow and care for trees. By the end of the course, learners will understand how to apply these techniques to contribute to conservation and environmental restoration projects.

This course is freely available to anyone interested in learning more about horticulture and tree planting for conservation.
