During this year’s European Mobility Week, bus shelters in Slovenia are being re-greened with the help of Ljubljana Botanical Garden and Europlakat.

The roofs are planted exclusively with Slovenian indigenous plant species – grown in the Ljubljana Botanical Garden – carefully selected for their resilience and role in supporting urban biodiversity. In addition, green roofs help mitigate the effects of the urban heat island by reducing ambient temperatures and filtering particulate matter in the air, thereby improving air quality. These new structures are completely self-sustaining and do not require irrigation, fertilization, replanting or ongoing maintenance.

By the end of this year, a total of 75 bus shelters in 41 locations in Ljubljana will have been greened.
