Holiday Educational Programme at Jardim Botânico do Recife Promotes Plant Conservation and Environmental Awareness

The Botanic Garden of Recife (BGR) launches its Holiday Educational Programme, EcoFérias 2026, inviting children, youth, families, and educators to participate in a series of immersive activities dedicated to environmental education and plant conservation. Running from January 15 to 25, the programme aims to strengthen the public’s connection with Atlantic Forest biodiversity through dynamic, hands-on learning experiences.

The holiday schedule includes guided nature walks focusing on flora species identification, environmental conservation of endangered species, biological invasions, and the importance of forests in climate change mitigation, as well as interactive workshops on seedling production, medicinal plant handling, and chocolate production.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore thematic gardens featuring tropical plants, medicinal plants, palms, an African garden, biome garden, Araceae garden, and collections of Orchidaceae, Passifloraceae, Bromeliaceae, and Cactaceae.

Developed by the BGR’s environmental education team, all activities emphasize experiential learning, accessibility, and scientific rigor. The initiative reinforces the Garden’s commitment to scientific outreach, conservation awareness, and community engagement, aligning with global efforts to promote plant conservation and support the objectives of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.

The Holiday Educational Programme is free and open to the public, with limited spaces depending on the activity. The Recife City Hall, through the Department of Environment, invites everyone to participate in this special season of discovery, nature appreciation, and conservation at Botanic Garden of Recife.

Botanic Garden of Recife, a member of the Brazilian Alliance for Botanical Gardens (BABG) and Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), is located at BR 232, km 5.5, Recife, Pernambuco – Brazil. The space is open Tuesday through Sunday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
