Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) is pleased to announce that the Spanish-language edition of the BGCI Botanic Garden Accreditation Manual is now available.
This new edition improves access to BGCI’s global standards for botanic gardens across the Spanish-speaking regions of the world, supporting excellence in plant conservation, education, and garden management.
“We’re excited to make this important resource more accessible,” said Patricia Malcolm, head of Membership and Conservation Services. “It will help more gardens engage with our accreditation process and strengthen plant conservation worldwide.”
The manual offers step-by-step guidance on applying for BGCI Accreditation and highlights the benefits of joining the global network of accredited gardens.
A Tool for Global Impact
BGCI Botanic Garden Accreditation is a globally recognised endorsement of botanical excellence. Accredited gardens demonstrate leadership in plant conservation, adhere to best practices in horticulture and science, and act as key contributors to the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation. The new Spanish edition provides detailed guidance on the application process, criteria for accreditation, and the benefits that come with being part of BGCI’s global network. The manual is accompanied by examples from leading gardens worldwide, making it a practical resource for both large institutions and emerging gardens.
This translation also reinforces BGCI’s commitment to strengthening regional networks, such as the Red Sudamericana de Jardines Botánicos y the Caribbean and central American Botanic Garden Network. By providing resources in local languages, BGCI helps gardens overcome language barriers that have historically limited international collaboration and capacity development.
