Dan is a dendrologist and plant conservationist. He works for Botanic Gardens Conservation International, managing their Global Conservation Consortia initiative. A leading maple specialist, Dan studies members of the genus in both cultivation and the wild and is lead author of ‘The Red List of Acer: revised and extended’, published by BGCI in 2020. An active member of the IUCN Global Tree Specialist Group, he has also authored IUCN Red List assessments for trees in several other genera. Dan has extensive practical experience in planting and maintaining trees in a botanic garden setting, having worked at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum, UK for nine years, where he also led wild collecting expeditions as a member of the curatorial team.
