About the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden

Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden (QSBG) is located in the mountainous area of Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province. The garden was established in 1992 by the Botanical Garden Organization (BGO) under the administration of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. In April 1994, The BGO received a great honor from Her Majesty Queen Sirikit to grant her royal permission for Her Majesty's name to be the title of the garden as " Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden" (QSBG).

QSBG has 4 satellite gardens, The Rayong Botanic Garden, Rayong Province; Ban Romklao Botanic Garden, Phitsanulok Province; Khon Kaen Botanic Garden, Khon Kaen Province and Phra Mae Ya Botanic Garden, Sukhothai Province.

The main objectives of the Garden are to serve as a center of Thai flora for botanical study and research, to render services concerning biodiversity and environmental conservation, as well as to provide an aesthetic place for the general public.

The Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden Herbarium (QBG) contains over 100,000 specimens and 53 type specimens, mainly from Thailand and also from other neighboring countries through donating, giving and exchanging, including 113,939 specimens of plant, 6,131 specimens of Bryophytes (Lichens), 44 specimens of algae and 1 specimen of mushroom. (13,717 taxa of plant specimens, 9,097 taxa of vascular plants in Thailand, 962 taxa of Orchidaceae, 330 taxa of Zingiberaceae and 763 taxa of Rare & Threatened plant of Thailand; data at 31 Mar 2020).

Our Plant collection containing 3,225 taxa, this includes 814 taxa of Orchidaceae, 230 taxa of Zingiberaceae, 384 taxa of Rare & Threatened plant of Thailand, and 311 taxa of Medicinal Plant (data at 31 Mar 2020).
