About the Jardin Botanico "Alejandro von Humboldt"
Alexander von Humbolt Botanical Garden of the University of Tolima is a dependency directed by Sciences faculty, which was created in 1969 at y the initiative of the Agronomist Raúl Echeverry and the collaboration of students from the Agronomy, Forestry, Biology and Chemistry programs. It is located between 1,070 and 1,170 meters above sea level, with an average temperature of 23°C and an extension of 10 hectares; it is home to 516 plant species corresponding to 110 families, including ornamental, medicinal, fruit and timber plants. Most of them are representative of the regional flora and the sub-Andean forest.
The name of this garden is attributed to the memory of the German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, who 200 years ago traveled through this area on his way to the Andes of Quindío.
