About the Arboretum of Szarvas MATE

The Arboretum of Szarvas is Hungary's largest arboretum: 82 hectares, of which 62 hectares are open to visitors. 45 hectares are a nature reserved and a living gene bank. The gene bank collection consists of 327 taxa 983 specimens, including an evergreen collection of 91 taxa 651 specimens. It is an English garden style arboretum and its main value is its spatial structure, with a balanced composition of evergreen and deciduous species. The central core is the Pepikert, a garden created by Count Paul Bolza in the late 1800s. It is a popular destination for visiting tourists.
