About the Qarshi Botanical Garden (QBG)

Qarshi Botanical Garden (QBG) was established in 2000 with the aim to conserve and propagate commercially important indigenous plant species.Qarshi Botanical Garden (QBG) is situated on the premises of Qarshi Industries (Pvt.) Ltd, which is located in the industrial Estate, Hattar, District Haripur, KPK, Pakistan on Taxila - Haripur Road. It is 60 km from zero point Islamabad. QBG is situated at the latitude 33o 44' to 34o 22' and longitude 72o 35' to 73o 15' and 610 meter above the sea level. The mean minimum & maximum annual rainfall ranges from 800 - 1300 mm respectively & average winter temperature is 12oC and summer temperature is around 29 oC. However, maximum temperature rises to >40 oC in summer and the lowest temperature in the winter fall below 4oC. Depending upon the weather conditions, sometime severe frost is observed during the month of December & January.

The Herb Garden is spread over 4 acres.The Herb Garden is tastefully designed and laid out for planting of medicinal plant species. It contains more than 276 medicinal plant species of 52 families and 212 genera. There are 56 exotic species including herbs, shrubs & trees. Some of important exotic species are Ginkgo biloba, Hibiscus sabdariffa, Stevia rebaudiana, Zephranthes grandiflora, Aloe barbadensis, Helianthus tuberosus, Nepeta cataria, Mentha spicata, Cymbopogon citratus, Plantago lanceolata, Plumbago zeylanica, Rosmarinus officinalis, Hyssopus officinalis, Melissa officinalis,Cynara scolymus, Ribis grossularis etc. Rests of species are indigenous and collected from different ecological zones of Pakistan especially mountainous regions including Northern Areas and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The important indigenous species planted include Lawsonia alba, Achillia millifolium, Ajuga reptans, Althea rosea, Berberis lycium, Cichorium intybus, Fragaria vesca, Podophyllum emodi, Cymbopogon citratus, Tanacetum parthenium, Mirabilis jalapa, Crategus fragrans, Calotropus procera, Glycchariza glabra, Ocimum bacilicum, Rosa damascene, Mentha arvensis, Curcuma longa, Sida cordifolia, Plantago major, Viola odorata. Some threatened species like Taxus wallichiana, Withania somnifera, Valariana jatamansi, Juniperus excelsa, Murraya koenigii, Berginia cilliata have also been planted in the Herb Garden for conservation & propagation. There are 16 species of Cactus and 7 species of Juniper.Each plant species planted in the Herb Garden is labeled in standard format which provides all relevant information about plant species such as Urdu name, Botanical name, English name, Family, Part used, Medicinal use / Action etc.
