About the South-Ural Botanical Garden-Institute – Subdivision of the Ufa Federal Research Centre of the Russia
South-Ural Botanical Garden-Institute is a separate structural division of the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution of the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences - a state academic scientific institution conducting fundamental and applied research works in the field of botany, plant introduction, as well as genetics, breeding and biotechnology in order to preserve plant biodiversity. One of the main tasks of the Botanical Garden is also scientific and educational activities. The most important areas of research include the development of scientific foundations for the introduction and acclimatization of plants in the Ural and Bashkortostan; Conservation and study of the gene pool of natural and cultural flora based on living collections; Study, protection and reproduction of rare and endangered plant species; Selection of sustainable varieties of ornamental crops; Analysis of population-genetic structure and microevolution of forest tree species; Substantiation of ways of breeding improvement of forest tree plants on a population basis; Development of methods of vegetative reproduction and technologies of clonal micro-expansion of rare and household-valuable plants. On the territory of the Botanical Garden there are 4,736 species and varieties of plants.
