The goal of this awards program is to promote partnership activities to achieve the mission of the Global Genome Initiative for Gardens: to preserve and understand Earth’s genomic biodiversity of plants. To this aim, we seek to support collection and preservation activities at botanic gardens around the world.

This program, funded by GGI-Gardens and United States Botanic Garden will provide up to 15 awards of up to $4,500 to support collection programs from living collections with unique families and genera of vascular plants not yet represented in biorepositories. In partnership with the Global Genome Biodiversity Network (GGBN), GGI-Gardens stores and makes information about tissues available through the world’s largest network of biorepositories.

This call for applications for awards through the BGCI/GGI-Gardens Awards Program is open from 22 September 2020 – 15 November 2020. Successful applicants will be notified by the end of December 2020 and funds will be dispersed in early January. Award activities must be completed by December 31st, 2021.
