About the Jardin Botanico Regional del CICY

The garden was founded in 1983 as part of the Centro de Investigación Científica de Yucatán (CICY), as a Civil Association (Asociación Civil), or non-government, non-profit organization. Today the garden hosts twenty unique collections. The garden is 2.5 hectares and home to nearly 17,000 individual plants originating from all over the world. Additionally, in 2015 the garden received federal funding to build two new exhibition houses to showcase ornamental and unusual tropical and desert plants and showcase plants from outside of the region.
