Barn-raising at Harcourt Arboretum

4 July 2013

Last weekend saw the raising of a new Craft Shelter at the University of Oxford Harcourt Arboretum, UK. This beautiful cruck-framed structure located in their coppice woodland was built using timber from the arboretum and is the result of three workshops run by renowned timber frame practitioner and instructor Henry Russell. Workshop participants built the walls, cross frames and roof and all came together to help with the barn-raising on 29th and 30th June.

The barn will be used for meetings and future workshops and provides a covered space for educational activities at the arboretum. An excellent way to use arboretum resources and involve the community – and what a great result!
