Director, Wentworth Castle and Stainborough ParkWentworth Castle & Stainborough Park Heritage Trust (Salary c. £39,000 plus final salary pension) Wentworth Castle and Stainborough Park near Barnsley in South Yorkshire is genuinely a hidden gem. Although the 18th century parkland estate is little-known and in the past has never been accessible to the public, it is without doubt one of the most important heritage sites in the North of England. The site extends to over 600 acres and contains 26 listed buildings, monuments and follies. It is the only Grade 1 listed Park and Garden in South Yorkshire. Wentworth Castle Trust took over ownership of the site in 2004, and since then has successfully delivered an award-winning £16 million restoration project with the support of many partners, including the Heritage Lottery Fund. The project has been delivered on time and to budget, and the Gardens and Park successfully opened for the first time in 2007. The Trustees are now looking for a dynamic individual with a “can-do” attitude to take the project on to the next stage. We are looking for a strategic thinker, with a proven track record of successful income generation through commercial activity and effective budgetary control of significant financial and physical resources. Experience of direct management and motivation of a diverse workforce including volunteers is also required. This is an exciting opportunity to make your mark by joining a high profile and successful heritage project at a critical stage in its development.
