Chief Executive Officer, Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, USAThe Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, located in Sarasota, FL, is seeking a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the CEO will provide vision and direction, and will be responsible for overall programming and management of the Gardens. The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is a collection of more than 20,000 colorful plants on a 9.5 acre bay front property that is both open-air and under-glass. The Selby Gardens is perhaps best known for its living collection of more than 6,000 orchids. Voted “One of America’s Top Ten Botanical Gardens” by the Country Living Gardener magazine, The Selby Gardens attracted 135,000 visitors in 2007. We seek a visionary, proven leader with a successful track record of strong management skills and fiscal integrity who possesses a passion for botanical gardens, conservation, horticulture and research. Experience working in a visitor-based organization is helpful. An understanding of business principles applied to a nonprofit organization, particularly a background of donated and earned revenue and good budget management, is sought. The qualified candidate will be decisive and will be able to keep the purpose and vision of the Gardens in tact while moving toward goals in a clear and timely manner. An understanding of the unique qualities inherent in a nonprofit institution and experience working with a Board of Trustees, either as a professional or as a volunteer, is expected. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required; a master's degree or higher is preferred. Evidence of continuing professional education in such areas as business management, marketing, or administration is a plus. For more information, please contact: Jane M.
