Horticultural Database Administrator, RHS Wisley

Science & Learning

Wisley
37.5 hours
BAND 3 – Circa £ 17,000

Do you have an interest in plants and a background in IT?  Would you like to combine the two?  The RHS Botany Department based at Wisley Garden, is a leading authority on the naming of plants in cultivation and hosts the Society’s Horticultural Database.  The system is used across the Society for managing living and preserved collections, publications and reference.  Its data underpins the work of the Science Departments and is a major source of information to our flagship website and RHS Plant Finder.

We currently seek a Database Administrator to ensure the integrity and consistency of the Horticultural Database, undertake staff training and provide first line support for the users.  Based in the Botany Department but working across the whole Society you will require excellent interpersonal skills and a methodical approach to problem solving.

Applicants should have recent experience of managing information in an enterprise level database, with excellent IT skills and proven experience of user support and training.  Knowledge and practical use of collections management software in a biological context would be an advantage.
