Manager, Living Collections, Singapore Botanic GardensThe Singapore Botanic Gardens (SBG) dates back to 1822. Its scientific roles focus on orchid breeding & micropropagation, plant biodiversity & and education. It is the nation's most popular park with a very high profile and is a leading tourist destination in Singapore. It is supported by a major annual grant from the State. Job DescriptionThe Manager, Living Collections, will work with other managers and subordinates and will be responsible for maintaining and developing the plant collections of a part of the Gardens. The person will also be expected to develop a specialist interest in particular plant groups and assist with the interpretion of these to the public. As the Gardens is creating new landscapes and new themed plant attractions and collections, the successful candidate will also assist with the plant-based aspects of these developments. The person will also be willing to provide on-the-job training to junior staff and supervise contract staff, trained and untrained. He/she will be expected to be involved and contribute to programmes and activities in a public garden, including educational outreach, horticultural shows and corporate or social activities. The job will be in a diversified Asian cultural setting RequirementsA diploma or degree in horticulture, botany or a related field is expected. The successful candidate must have experience in developing and maintaining plant collections, preferably in a public park or garden. Strong management and communication skills are essential. The successful candidate would be expected to have at least 5 years working experience and have a keen interest in tropical plants. RemunerationThe salary will be competitive.
