Opportunities for Horticultural Students at the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland

The National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin is offering placement opportunities for students in horticulture to work at the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin during the summer months of 2007.  These placements will be open to students who are currently undertaking formal horticultural courses and are ideally suited to those who require a practical placement as part of their qualification. Placements are offered in blocks of seven or eight weeks, although some students could work for a period of 15 weeks if they wish.

The students will work in various departments of the National Botanic Gardens (nursery, glasshouses, outdoor collections) working alongside the permanent horticultural staff of the Gardens.  On completion of their placements, the students are assessed and reasonable documentation on their performance can be available as required.

Students who are citizens of countries of the E.U., who have a working knowledge of English will benefit most from this opportunity.  A weekly amount of Euro 258 per week will be paid to each student, which they will use to cover their accommodation in Dublin, food, travel etc.  Accommodation is not provided but the Gardens can offer advice, if needed, on suitable accommodation in Dublin.

A curriculum vitae and letter of application should be sent as soon as possible to Paul Maher, Curator, National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9. Ireland (paul.maher@opw.ie)
