The Xinjiang Service Center for Scientific Expeditions (XSCSE), ChinaVolume 2 Number 7 - December 1996
Ou Yong Liu Wenjiang
The Xinjiang Service Center for Scientific Expeditions (XSCSE) was established in 1990. It belongs to the Xinjiang Institute of Biology, Pedology and Desert Research and is affiliated to the National First-grade Travel Agency (International Travel Agency of Chinese Academy of Sciences). It provides a high quality service for those who wish to explore Xinjiang. In the autumn of 1995, we successfully organised a trekking expedition that took 30 days across the Taklamakan Desert with the Expedition Club of Kansai University, Japan. The Center welcomes scientific expeditions, academic groups, experts and scholars from different countries who come to Xinjiang for exploration, research, conferences and tours. They provide information, itineries, vehicles, food, interpreters and guides, reservations for planes and railways and provide international telephone, telex and fax services. Xinjiang is an important thoroughfare of the "Old Silk Road",and has always been the bridge linking the East and the West. There are imposing high mountains, glaciers, deserts, grasslands as well as rich natural resources and worldfamous ancient cities. |
