Our database of botanic garden plant collections (Plant Search) provides a direct link to global, regional and national lists of threatened species, and is a key tool for institutions to use in assessing and continually improving the conservation value of their plant collections. Click here for one of many reasons why the “...value of the database is immense and we should all be encouraged to upload our data to it and use it to evaluate our collections”.

Aims of U.S. strategy for 2008 and beyond include working to:

  1. Increase representation of U.S. plant collections in BGCI’s Plant Search database.

  2. Encourage the use of Plant Search as a tool to evaluate and improve the conservation value of individual plant collections relative to national and global collections.

  3. Link Plant Search to databases maintained by other organizations to facilitate the evaluation of the conservation value of plant collections.
