Climate Change

Plants face many threats, but climate change is probably the single greatest threat to plant diversity, and thus a major challenge for plant conservation efforts worldwide. Botanic gardens have an urgent role to play in helping to mitigate this threat, and BGCI is working at many levels to help provide the tools and framework for global action. Among many efforts on this front, BGCI's U.S. Strategy aims to:
  1. Develop programs for BGCI’s U.S. members to participate in around studying and mitigating the impacts of climate change on plant diversity, and help expand efforts already underway through BGCI's global network.

  2. Develop programs and materials that promote the ability of BGCI’s U.S. members to take a leadership role on the issue of plants and climate change.

Look for more to come from BGCI on the topic of Plants and Climate Change throughout 2008.
