Brooklyn Botanic Garden suspends research programs pending herbarium move

28 August 2013
Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) announced in late August that it was suspending its research programs while it grappled with an accelerating building foundation problem at its off-site Science Center.  The research hiatus was further catalyzed by budget challenges related to increased operating costs, and led to the termination of three science staff positions, half of those involved with research at the Garden.   Over the next year BBG will develop a plan to move its large herbarium into temporary quarters, and explore ways to return research to the Garden  with a more stable base of support.
