What medicinal secrets are hidden in a pot of honey?
29th July 2011
Scientists in Wales are aiming to identify plants that can help to fight antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), which are especially troublesome in hospitals, and diseases damaging bee populations. This collaborative project between the National Botanic Garden of Wales and Cardiff University will look at honey samples from different locations across the UK and examine its antimicrobial activity which may indicate the medicinal potential of the bees’ plant food. British beekeepers can contribute to this research by sending their honey to NBG Wales for inspection. If you would like to get involved or learn more about this project click here. |
