This publication was a special issue for the International Symposium of Shanghai Censham Botanical Garden, Shanghai Chenshan Plant Research Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The symposium was organised by Shanghai Landscaping Administration Bureau, Shanghai Institues for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Botanic Gardens Conservation International. The Symposium was held from 11 - 14 October 2010. Attending the meeting were 26 representatives from 13 countries, and 111 representatives from 69 institues and organisations in China. Xiao-Ya CHEN, President of Shanghai Censham Botanical Garden and Director of Shanghai Chenshan Plant Research Center says in the introduction to the proceedings:
The publication includes 18 articles in 146 pages. There is an introduction by Xio-Ya CHEN, President of Shanghai Censham Botanical Garden and Director of Shanghai Chenshan Plant Research Center, and Sara Oldfield, Secretary General, Botanic Gardens Conservation International. Other contributions from BGCI include one by Xiang-Ying WEN - BGCI's China Projects Officer and Joachim Gratzfeld - BGCI's Director of Regional Programmes.
