Call for papers: 2011 International Biodiversity Conference

A call for papers, for the 2011 International Biodiversity Conference (29 July - 4 August 2011) has been issued by the organisers, Wildspots Foundation. They write:

Call for Papers

If you are interested in attending the 2011 International Biodiversity Conference, we ask that you present a paper in Banos and help us build our online digital catalog. We will need you to fill out a form and provide us with a paragraph telling us the subject of your paper. In the past, we have featured papers on the interaction of species with human environments, discovery of new species, and environmental projects that protect species.

We have also featured papers on the interrelationships between endangered and threatened species with adverse elements in their environments or conditions. Please note that all papers will be published online after the conference.

About the 2011 International Biodiversity Conference

Since 2002, our group has been holding this conference in the middle of one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. The environment in Baños is pristine and located away from most of the major cities. Our staff has more than 30 years of experience doing biodiversity conservation and tropical ecology research.

The 2011 International Biodiversity Conference is bilingual and sponsored by Wild Spots Foundation, San Martin Zoological Gardens, City of Baños, and several corporate sponsors.    Our general paper categories include:Ecological Biodiversity ResearchSpecies-Specific Research from around the worldBiodiversity in a changing climateBiogeography projects and related research Physical impact of volcanism upon biodiversityGIS and spatial ecology researchInnovative Environmental Education/Community Programs.

Abstracts (250 word maximum) are now due. The deadline is June 1, 2011.  Please submit abstracts and the proposed title of your presentation to barker@wildspotsfoundation.org. Paper acceptance is on an ongoing basis until presentation slots are filled.

Instructions for abstract submission

The following are guidelines for submitting an abstract for presentation at the 2nd Annual International Biodiversity Conference. All persons seeking to make a presentation must submit an abstract.  Abstracts should be no more than 250 words, typewritten (12-point, Times New Roman font), double-spaced, and in Microsoft Word document format. Please include the author(s) on the abstract. The name(s), affiliation(s), and address(es) of the authors should also appear on the Abstract Cover Sheet and e-mailed to barkerb@wildspotsfoundation.org.  

The format of the abstract should be as follows:


1.    Title (15 words or less)
2.    The word ABSTRACT followed immediately by the text of the abstract.


A good abstract should describe:


1.    What you studied and why – place the research in perspective by explaining the reason for the work.
2.    How you did the research – briefly explain your methods.
3.    What you found – summarize your results.
4.    What does it mean – state your conclusions and management implications.

2.    Other authors
3.    Affiliations
4.    Contact information, i.e., email address and telephone number
