Plants and Us; New Exhibition at the John Innes Centre
UK
19th December 2007
The John Innes Centre (JIC), Norwich, UK is a world leading centre of excellence in plant and microbial
Plants & Us was conceived and developed as a method of acheiving this. A short list of 100 plants in ten different categories was compiled to find out what people thought were the top ten plants that have most influenced our lives. The top ten choices were developed into an exhibition aimed at non-scientists and school children which is on display in the JIC Conference Centre. The exhibition is a celebration in words and pictures of the vital role that plants have played in shaping our world and safeguarding our future. The overall winner of all the voting sessions was wheat. A website to complement the exhibition contains information on the categories and final choices. The exhibition is available in a portable format with accompanying literature and voting slips, for any education sites, botanic gardens, zoos or parks which wish to display it in the UK. For any sites outside the UK, or those with space restrictions, the JIC is able to supply the electronic files for reproduction as required.
