Scholarships Available for 2008 International Diploma on Education in Botanic Gardens

BGCI is joining forces with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, to run the International Diploma in Botanic Garden Education for botanic garden staff in September/October 2008.  The course aims to equip participants with skills and strategies to communicate effectively with their varied audiences. 

Subjects include:

  • interpretation – principles and practice
  • life long learning strategies
  • the history and development of education for sustainable development
  • an overview of learning in botanic gardens
  • fundraising
  • marketing
  • networking
  • evaluation

The emphasis of the course is on interactive learning and the application of skills to the participants’ working context, with input from guest speakers and visits to museums and gardens running educational programmes. 

BGCI is calling for applications for scholarships for the course. Applicants must be from developing countries, with good conversational and written English, and a knowledge of the appropriate technical terms.  Contact education@bgci.org for more information and an application form.



International Diploma in Botanic Garden Education

BGCI and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew organise the international diploma course in education for botanic garden staff every two to three years. The course equips participants with the education skills and strategies to get their message across effectively to varied audiences.
