The Auckland Botanic Gardens stretches across 64 hectares of land and is home to over 10,000 plants from around the world. There are comprehensive collections of ornamental plants and extensive displays of native and introduced plants. This is a great workplace where ideas grow and the team is passionate, hardworking and dedicated!

This is a diverse role that will combine your strong, technical knowledge of plants with the proven ability to coordinate and deliver community education and manage a comprehensive volunteer programme. The role sits within the Visitor Services team - you'll be one of the key faces of Auckland Botanic Gardens to the community with the ability to directly inspire, excite and engage communities from all walks of life.

This job will test your broad horticultural knowledge and communication skills including public speaking in a variety of ways. Key aspects of the role include coordination of display and interpretation projects and community education which may include workshops and guided walks. You will assist with the production of plant and garden information for visitors using different media including hard copy collateral, digital and audio visual based. You will deliver talks to targeted community and horticultural groups. With your tech-savvy and social media skills, you will also be responsible for leading the charge and maintaining the Auckland Botanic Gardens Facebook page.

The Botanic Gardens volunteer programme is extensive, and it will be your responsibility to coordinate the many different volunteer groups and activities that contribute so much to our success.

This is a fantastic role for someone keen to leverage their broad technical horticultural knowledge, along with their passion for educating and inspiring others, to a new level.

To be successful in this role we seek someone with a National Diploma in Horticulture level 6, or equivalent, with experience in delivering education or community based programmes. Naturally we need you to be a confident speaker with the ability to communicate your passion and expertise in an engaging manner.
