Republic of Altai, Kamluck village, Russian Federation

Volunteering opportunity

Gorno-Altai Botanical Garden is located in the west Siberian region of Russia on the territory of  the natural monument "Shishkular-Kata-Net meadow". It is a scenic area, where Altai mountains unique plant species grow. In this place the vividly rugged shores of rivers Sema and Katun form a unique landscape, decorated with whimsical coves.

The volunteers are welcomed to participate in the restoration and repatriation of valuable medicinal plants in the highlands of Seminsky Pass (2,000 m), to undertake phenological observations and to estimate the degree of plants survival after the reintroduction, to take care of  flower-beds and medical plants seedbeds and will learn to make herbal tea compositions with such valuable medicinal and aroma plants as Hypericum perforatum L., Leonurus quinquelobatus Cilib. and Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench, a tea Hedysarum (Hedysarum theinum), the maral root (Rhaponticum carthamoides) and others.

Please note:

BGCI are not responsible for the jobs and volunteering opportunities advertised on our website, we are happy to advertise roles in Botanic Gardens around the world however we must advise the potential traveler to establish a contact with the garden and ask for the terms and conditions particularly with travel and transport to the site, accommodation and food and equipment and money need during your stay.  Gardens are often situated in difficult to reach areas and the conditions may not be as convenient to those of urban areas.

We would be delighted to hear of any volunteering opportunities you have done in Botanic Gardens and Arboreta, contact with your stories.
