Schools' Officer - Cambridge University Botanic GardenSchools' Officer Part-time: 3 days a week (22.5 hours per week) Grade 7, £27,854-£36,298 per annum pro-rata Reference: PE00986 Applications are invited for the post of Education Officer, with responsibility for schools, to work within a small team in the Garden’s Education Department.
Candidates should be educated to degree level in a science or environmental subject, with a subsequent post-graduate teaching qualification, or other recognised professional teaching qualification. They will also have several years’ experience of delivering high quality teaching within a school environment and/or an organisation providing a formal schools education service, such as a botanic garden, environmental centre or a museum. Applicants must have a sound working knowledge of the current national curriculum, knowledge of plants and their use for educational purposes and an understanding of the wider educational context (within the framework of a major Higher Educational establishment) in which the Garden provides life-long learning. This is a demanding post, which requires candidates to have broad experience of working with the public, ideally with school age children, families and volunteers, and the ability to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the needs and priorities of these audiences. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are essential. Candidates should also possess the ability to work as part of a small team, to prioritise, delegate and work under pressure to inflexible deadlines. The Garden is looking for a creative thinker, who is able to translate great ideas into reality, within the confines of small budgets.
