Volunteer at Reserva Rio Guaycuyacu - Ecuador

Reserva Rio Guaycuyacu

Location: Northwestern Ecuador rainforest at 500 meters elevation

Our reserve is not a classic botanical garden, we are mostly dedicated to continuing to plant and investigate new fruits and other food plants.  With over 600 species of edible fruits, we have one of the world's best collections.

As a volunteer here, you will work usually with one of us (jim and meredith) in the mornings.   The afternoons you are free to choose your own projects.

Activities here include these:

  • Propagation (by seeds, cuttings, grafting and marcots), maintenance in nursery, and planting out of plants mostly fruit trees and a variety of others
  • Maintenance of the mixed orchards
  • Harvesting fruits for seeds
  • Construction - we use palm wood, bamboo, cob, and other local materials
  • Food preparation - we use local produce, and make our own tempeh, chocolate, breads, and fruit products

There is more information about the reserve on our website, www.guaycuyacu.net   you can contact us there or at guaycuyacu@yahoo.com

Closing date: Applications considered all year round
