Job: Founded in 1913, The Garden Club of America (GCA) is a volunteer nonprofit organization comprised of 200 member clubs and approximately 18,000 individual club members throughout the country.  The purpose of GCA is to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening, to share the advantages of association by means of educational meetings, conferences and publications, and to restore, improve and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement.

Reporting to the President, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is responsible for the day-to-day operations of GCA.  The COO supports the meetings of the Executive Committee, Directors, Finance Committee, Audit Committee, GCA Annual Meeting and other national meetings as required; fosters collaborative working relationships; oversees the development of the budget; attracts, develops and directs all national office staff; ensures that the GCA Executive Committee, Directors, and all National Committees are provided with pertinent information; and maintains appropriate internal operating policies and procedures.

We seek a professional executive whose successful background and experience in organizational leadership and management are clearly evident.  Ideally this person would possess experience in a membership-based organization in a senior-level staff position or at a high-level voluntary leadership position.  The ability to manage deadlines, priorities and deliverables as planned and promised is expected.  Direct, management-level experience in financial and budget management is a must.  Prior leadership roles in successful fundraising activities would be helpful. The qualified candidate will demonstrate success in hiring, mentoring and retaining capable and competent staff and in organizing job functions to create a highly-efficient, team-oriented, customer-friendly employee group.  A background in developing internal accountability standards as well as goal-oriented work habits is required. A BA or BS degree is required.
