Two Systematic Botanist Positions Available

Job Description:

Required to develop and manage an active, productive research program into systematics of selected plant groups, including preparing and publishing outcomes in various media. This position will also manage the taxonomic curation of selected BGT herbarium collections and provide identification advice to clients.

Selection Criteria 

1. Relevant Tertiary Qualifications in Biological and/or Botanical Science, with substantial training in systematic botany (plant taxonomy) and extensive knowledge of vascular plants.

2. Knowledge of and experience in, appropriate research techniques (phylogeny, molecular techniques, microscopy) in herbarium, field and laboratory, with a good knowledge of plant species distribution in NSW.

3. Knowledge of systematic botany (plant taxonomy) and nomenclature in relation to the understanding of Herbarium collections and record keeping practices within collections.

4. Experience in herbarium curation procedures and plant identification.

5. Expertise in the use of botanical specimen data and current collections databases, data processing   and interpretation skills, especially in EMu database software program, with demonstrated knowledge of the technical aspects of specimen preparation.

6. Demonstrated organisational, time management, problem solving and project management skills, with an ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.

7. Proven verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare research papers for publication, and give presentations and reports for general and specialised audiences;

8. NSW Class C Driver's Licence or equivalent with the ability to drive manual vehicles.
