Registration is now open for the Symposium "Botanic gardens in a changing world" being organsied by the Hortus botanicus, Leiden.
Key note speakers include Prof. Dr. G. Casodoro (Italy) who will talk about history and new science development, Dr. D. Widyatmoko about the strategy and results of establishing new botanic gardens in Indonesia and Paul Smith from BGCI will disucss the importance of botanic gardens in today's world.
Interaction and relaxation
Besides attending keynote lectures from renowned scholars, you will have the opportunity to participate in several panel discussions and ‘speed-date’ during the poster sessions. We invite you to take a walk through the Hortus with our experienced guides. An excellent moment to clear your mind and find out more about our unique collections and special relationship with Leiden University. Of course, there is also time to discover Leiden. Chat with one of our experts while enjoying a beautiful waterfront view of the Leiden canals.
Call for papers
The symposium intends to provide a discussion and experience platform, therefore your contribution is very important and highly appreciated. If you would like to take part in this event and contribute to the scientific program with an oral contribution or a poster, we encourage you to submit your abstract before the March 5th 2015. Please take the following in consideration before handing in your paper:
• Congress theme: Science and education in the future and new developments in public approach
• Symposium language: English
• Each presentation will last 15 minutes
• Abstracts for papers and posters should contain no more than 250 words

Your poster will be exhibited in the Orangery of the Hortus botanicus Leiden. Authors are invited to present their work and small groups during the poster sessions. We encourage you to prepare A4 copies summarizing your work for distribution during the congress.
The Hortus botanicus Leiden is located close to the city center. Several hotels are available in this area. A limited number of rooms have been pre-reserved in the hotels listed below at special congress rates*. Book a room in one of the carefully selected hotels or choose a hotel yourself. Hotels are ranked from most expensive to best price. Prices depend on the type of room. Shown room rates do not include applicable taxes (e.g. tourist tax).
Hotel Fitland Leiden and Ibis Leiden Centre are both within walking distance of the Hortus botanicus Leiden. Holiday Inn is further away, but easily accessible by public transportation or taxi within 10 to15 minutes. In the appendix you will find more information about the selected hotels.
Participants are requested to contact their chosen hotel directly for reservation and hotel terms and conditions. If you choose one of the recommended hotels, you are kindly requested to make the booking by email or phone (not via website) of the hotel in question. When contacting hotels, be sure to quote the booking code and/or mention the congress and Hortus botanicus Leiden, part of Leiden University, as the congress organizer. You will need to refer to this information in order to access the discounted rates.
