About the Conference

The 3rd International conference Living in harmony: botanic gardens and society – dialogue without borders will include an extensive programme of presentations, seminars and round table   discussions communicating and exchanging experiences on issues and developments of regional, national and international collaboration between  botanical gardens and partner organizations for the conservation of plants.

At the Conference we will plan to discuss the issues relating to sustainable development and biodiversity conservation, the increasing social importance of botanical gardens, the administration and marketing, experience of gardens, innovation in educational activities, and landscape design at  botanical gardens. The key idea is an opportunity to experience regional, national and international cooperation, as a way to achieve peace in the world of plants.

The Conference will be of particular interest for Directors of Botanic Gardens, administrators, other environmental agencies, and professionals in marketing,   public relations and ecological education.

Within the framework of the Conference, for the first time in Russia, we will hold a master-class; ”Administration and marketing in gardens: the best in Russia and in the world –  sharing and discussing, teaching and learning ".  The class leaders will be:  Director and Professor Emeritus of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Peter J. Olin; Director of the University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Dr. Edward Schneider; Chair of Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, President of the Missouri Botanical Garden, Dr. Peter Wyse Jackson and Director of the Botanical Garden of Tver State University, Dr. Yury Naumtcev.

Programme of the Conference will be organized in the form of a lively interactive discussion. Discussion themes will be concentrated around methods and directions of interaction and exchange of experiences between botanical gardens, environmental centers and institutions, and public and state organizations at the regional, national and international levels, with a view to increasing efficiency and  giving meaning to their work.

1)      Global Strategy for Plant Conservation - think globally, act locally.

2)      Botanical Gardens and Society – the role of social and educational initiatives in the daily lives of people – connecting to your community.

3)      Is the Internet a parallel reality or a real tool for interpreting findings of gardens?

4)      Innovations in education and landscape design – learn to recognize plants and use them properly

5)      Marketing your garden to your community

Based on submitted materials, the Organizing Committee will establish a work programme, which will include the most interesting and relevant of the ideas you submit.

Working languages of Conference - Russian and English.

Please notify us of your intent to participate in the Conference and complete the registration form on the links http://garden.tversu.ru/main_eng.html. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to select the topics to be presented based on the submissions.

During the Conference you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the city of Tver and the region of Tver, which are located in the heart of Russia on the Great Russian River Volga. An ancient land, great rivers and crystal lakes, cities with a thousand years of history, virgin forests, the first Russian monasteries, ancient parks and estates. And of course, you're in the very small, cozy and intimate Botanical Garden of Tver State University. With an open heart and soul to you!

Gardens can and should use its expertise, capacity and resources to live in a changing world, and to help our world to live!
