IDS conference on pests & diseases7 November, 2012
ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS, KEW, UKWith climate change, the ability to move and plant larger trees from nurseries on the Continent and freer movement of trade in the EU, we are experiencing an increase of exotic pests and diseases that will be a potential threat to the trees in our collections. The expert speakers on this one day conference will raise awareness for any tree collection holder about the pests that we already have in our gardens, but also the potential threats from both Europe and North America. Provisional Programme 0930-1000: Registration and Coffee 1000-1120: Presentations on pests already present in the UK which threaten tree collections. 1120-1140: Coffee 1140-1300: Presentations on pests in North America and Europe which pose a threat to tree collections in the UK 1300-1400: Lunch 1400-1500: Demonstration of spraying rigs with the ability to cover large trees against pests and diseases. 1500-1600: Presentations on 3 major species of Phytopthtora already present in the UK. 1600-1620: Presentation on Acute Oak Decline 1620-1700: Presentation on the Bio Security Measures in the UK. 1630-1700: Questions and summing up. 1700: Tea Cost and Booking. £50 per person (£40 IDS Junior Members), including lunch. Numbers limited to 150 including representatives of outside organisations. In the event of over-subscription, priority will be given first to non-UK members and secondly to IDS members over non-member guests.
